Researchdata.se - a new national portal for research data

Researchdata.se is under construction

Throughout 2024, SND and its collaboration partners are working to create a new national portal for research data. The portal (researchdata.se) is one of the major goals in SND's mandate for 2023–26 and aims to facilitate current and future researchers in finding, sharing, and reusing data.

On this page, you will find general information about the project. You can also learn about how you can contribute to the development of researchdata.se.

Collaboration for richer search results

By harvesting data descriptions from a variety of partners, researchdata.se will provide richer search results than SND's current research data catalogue. Among the organizations already set for metadata harvesting are:

Additional partners will be added during the project and after the portal is launched, which is currently planned for early 2025.

Making it easier to find, share, and reuse data

The basis for the search function on the researchdata.se portal is SND's current research data catalogue and equivalent resources from the other infrastructures involved in the collaboration. The search function will include:

  • High quality and precision in search results.
  • Ability to filter search results according to the user's information needs.
  • An open search API, which enables the use of searches for compilations and overviews, for example.
  • Transparency on who owns the research data and how to access the data.
  • Focus on high-quality metadata – this is particularly important for data with access restrictions.

SND’s system, DORIS, where researchers can describe and share data, will provide the foundation for data sharing via researchdata.se. In order to harvest metadata for the search catalogue and create entries for other data repositories, collections, and infrastructures, SND will also develop recommendations for metadata best practices. This could involve, for example, setting rich metadata via DataCite, OAI-PMH, sitemap.xml, and schema.org.

More training materials for researchers

In addition to the functions for searching and sharing research data, a focus for researchdata.se will be to provide training materials for researchers, with pages on data management, legal aspects of research data, and more. The new portal will also feature a calendar of events relevant to researchers, not limited to those organized by SND.

Interested in collaborating with us and contributing to the development of researchdata.se?

We welcome additional collaboration partners in the form of research infrastructures wishing to describe and share various resources, such as research data, training materials for researchers, or tools for managing different types of data. If you would like more information about the various collaboration opportunities available, please contact our project managers Johan Fihn Marberg (johan.fihn.marberg@snd.se) and Elisabeth Strandhagen (elisabeth.strandhagen@snd.se).

The work to develop researchdata.se is carried out within the framework of a project group. Special working and reference groups are also associated with the project, where, among others, researchers, infrastructure personnel, and data support staff are represented. If you would like to know more about the work within the working and project groups, please don't hesitate to contact the project managers.

Timeline for the development of researchdata.se

The overall timeline describes when work on the main components of the development of researchdata.se begins. A significant portion of the work continues until the first launch of the portal.

Spring 2024: The framework and design for the portal are finalized, the SND research data catalogue is rebuilt, conditions for harvesting and standardization of metadata are developed, and relevant content from snd.gu.se is updated and transferred to researchdata.se.

Autumn 2024: Harvesting from collaboration partners begins, development of pages with new content, including training resources, is initialized, a calendar of events is created, and work on the launch campaign intensifies.

The portal is launched in January 2025.

Snd.se will focus on research data support and the SND network

The current website snd.gu.se will be renamed snd.se and its content will be developed in parallel with researchdata.se. This work is carried out within a project group at SND.

Once the separation into two portals is completed, snd.se will have the local data support units in the SND network as its primary target audience and will offer training opportunities, support tools, and other key resources for research data support. Snd.se will also continue to be the hub for news, events, and other important information relating to SND consortium and network activities.
