The SND Consortium

SND is governed by a consortium consisting of nine universities: University of Gothenburg, Chalmers University of Technology, Karolinska Institutet, KTH Royal Institute of TechnologyLund University, Stockholm University, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, Umeå University, and Uppsala University. University of Gothenburg is the host university for SND, which, among other things, means that the main office of SND is located in Gothenburg.

Stitches

SND’s steering committee has the overall responsibility for SND’s operations. The steering committee consults with a council composed of representatives from the consortium on the annual budget, strategic plan, and any significant changes to the operations. The daily work is governed by the Director of SND.

Domain specialists

The consortium universities contribute with expertise in the form of so-called domain specialists, who are experts in various scientific disciplines or in fields relating to different aspects of research data. They serve as a bridge between groups of researchers and the research community at large, on the one hand, and between the data repository and the local units for research data support (DAUs), on the other hand. SND currently has domain expertise in the social sciences, humanities, public health and epidemiology, environmental data, sensitive data, spatial data (geodata and GIS data), materials science, life science, registry-based medical and other research, as well as interdisciplinary population-based research related to registries and biobanks.

All the domain specialists can be found on our contact page.

Flagship projects

The SND office and the universities in the consortium work together to develop tools and methods to facilitate researchers in sharing and reusing data. An important part of this work is the so-called flagship projects. Flagship projects are time-limited initiatives aimed at supporting open access to research data in a broader sense. They can be carried out in collaboration between consortium universities and other HEIs or organizations. A central idea behind the flagship projects is that the results should benefit not only the universities and organizations driving them but also others.

The DAU Council

The purpose of the DAU Council is to strengthen the collaboration within the SND consortium and to simultaneously be a link between SND’s steering committee and the various national activities. The council has one member from each of the nine consortium universities. Elisabeth Strandhagen, deputy director and collaboration manager of the SND network, is head of the DAU Council work.
