Data accessibility

  • strengthens the possibility to unobstructed independant research
  • enables greater openness and insight into ongoing and completed research projects
  • improves data collection and measuring methods
  • encourages secondary analysis
  • generates a greater diversity of methods of analysis and development
  • reduces the costs for research by avoiding duplication of data collection
  • reduces the primary researchers administrative work eg. inquires from other researchers
  • fulfils the research funders demands that financed research must be made available/accessible to the research community
  • gives researchers the possibility to demonstrate the continued use of the data after the original research is completed

SND accepts quantitative and qualitative data in digital format or in a format that can easily be digitalized. All data that SND manages is de-identified, that is, all variables making respondent identification possible have been removed.

It is simple to deposit a study for documentation and archiving at SND;

1. Send in the de-identified data in a readable format (eg. .sav, .por, .xls, .doc, .ascii, etc
2. Attach all documentation, which is needed to understand the material (eg. questionnaires, codebooks etc).

How the material is further distributed is regulated in an agreement between SND and the primary investigator(s). The agreement could include a condition stating that SND needs to gain the approval of the primary investigator(s) before the data is distributed to a third party. The primary investigator(s) are always contacted when the third party is from outside of the academic community.
